MAUNTON ALBERT

Corporal G/934 Queen’s Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) 6th Bn. 

Killed in action,  age 31, 3/7/1916 THIEPVAL MEMORIAL France & Flanders 

Born Bromley, Kent. Husband of Caroline Henrietta Maunton married 1906.

At 3.15am on 3 July, the third day of the Battle of the Somme, 6/RWK attacked a salient in the German lines near the village of Ovillers.

Although many were killed before reaching their objective a significant number entered the German front line and held out there for much of the day, until forced to fall back. 

Remembered on the Sydenham South Suburban Gas Works war memorial.
