Britton

James Albert Britton was born in 1909 in Deptford. He trained as a Master Tailor and served in the Air Force in India during World War ll. After his demob he opened his first tailor’s shop in Lewisham and later had branches in Sidcup and Catford.

He was a very hard working man who worked 6 days a week in his shop and Sundays at the workshop, he only went on holiday once. In 1953 he moved to Tudor Road with his wife and two sons, he lived there until 1988 and then in Oakwood Avenue. He rose at 6am and walked his dogs in Kelsey Park every morning. He died suddenly at home shortly after his morning walk with the dog in July 1989.
